My Charming Family of Ghosts

My family has ghosts. Which sounds kind of weird, I admit, but it’s true. The more research I conduct on the haunted sites I’ve added to this site, the more connections I find to my own family. I’m not sure if I should be happy about this or not.

The first member of the family on my list is Uncle Joe – Joseph Trimble Rothrock, possibly the ghost who haunts Wiestling Hall at Penn State’s Mont Alto campus. Uncle Joe is technically Great-great Uncle Joe, older brother of one of my great-great-grandmothers.

Next up on the list is Lydia Powel, the famed spectre of the now defunct Crier in the Country. She’s 2nd cousin 4 times removed.

And then there’s George Baer Hiester, builder of the marvelous Stokesay Castle on Spook Lane in Reading. He’s a fifth cousin three times removed, so the link isn’t all that close, but family is family.

Caleb Brinton, of Brinton’s Lodge shows up on my list as a 4th cousin 4 times removed.

Ida Tyson, the sweet old lady of Mount Ida in Ellicott City is my 5th cousin 5 times removed.

Selma Mansion‘s builder, Andrew Porter, was married to Elizabeth Parker, my 5x great-aunt.

Martha Finley Nevin, one of the four wives of Robert Heysham Sayre, is a 2nd cousin 4 times removed.

Priscilla Moore, AKA Prissy Robinson, the particularly nasty matron of the Blue Ball Inn, is my half cousin 7 times removed.

Cornelia Tucker Slack, the little girl who is said to haunt the Lyceum in Burlington County, is a 5x cousin 3 times removed.
